Blue dot lenses,

More idle fiddling than anything seriously thought through; after seeing this curiosity online, I spotted some blue dots in a VW camper shop and drilled my brake light accordingly. Having since been asked wtf a few times, I've don't really have a convincing answer. Does anyone know their legal status?20220513_130935 (1).jpgView attachment 118913320220506_172534.jpg

Strictly speaking? Illegal - "No vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which is capable of showing any light to the rear, other than a red light...", and the list of exceptions doesn't include blue dots.

Colour of light shown by lamps and reflectors >>>> https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/regulation/11

This thread - https://www.rodsnsods.co.uk/threads/are-blue-dots-legal.193530 - suggests that they make the light appear to be purple, which might attract unwanted attention, but perhaps that could depend on the size of the red lens?
