883 Sportster Ignition Module

Hi All

I noticed my SE ignition module Part Number 32466 98 was replaced with part number 32465 98 by my local independent Harley shop. When I pointed this out he said it made no difference.

I note from Jersey HD website that both are available for the Sportster. No differences are stated - so is one for the 883 and one for the 1200? If it is the case that I have the 1200 version in my 883, will that be OK in the long run?

It seems to run OK, but I don't want any long term damage. Mine is a '99 XLH.

Thanks for your views.

Sam

Re: 883 Sportster Ignition Module

Interesting, neither number shows in the 1999 SE Parts Catalogue.
All I can say is 32466-98(now 32466-98B)supercedes 32466-95 which was listed as HDI XL883.
32465-98 (now 32465-98B)supercedes 32465-95 which was listed as HDI XL.

"32465-98 (now 32465-98B)supercedes 32465-95 which was listed as HDI XL"

Thanks Limey Dave. I omitted the 'B' in the new one. Apologies.

So my 883 has a 32465-98B fitted. Interesting that engine capacity was not quoted in your parts catalogue - just 'HDI XL' - so maybe this one is OK.

Re: 883 Sportster Ignition Module

I remember this coming up before but I can't for the life remember where. I about 80% sure that one of those is for the 883 model and one is for the 1200, 98-03 models that is.

The difference will be in the timing curve, there being a little less advance in one.

I don't know whether it will matter. I personally would want the right part if I'd paid good money for it.

32466-99 is 883 and 32465-98 is 1200 I believe you can run either, not sure if it makes a difference in heading up to Harley Davidson tomorrow I’ll let you know what they say
