Im 5'7" and find the Buell XT a struggle but can manage. The Buell X however is even higher and is a real struggle. i do own a Yamaha XT600E which has a simliar seat height but the bike is lighter than the Buells

It's not about how tall you are... it's all about your inside leg measurement. The seat height is quoted as 30.7 inches. I would suggest finding one and sitting on it. If you can't move it backwards on your own steam, you're going to have problems.
A good thick soled boot can help and there are manufacturers out there doing shorter shocks.
