Drive belt tension

Hi I need to adjust my drive belt on my 85 fxrs, I have said tool for correct tensioning, problem I have no amigo to sit on my bike,+{bar the misses and she's a light weight compared to me!} also no belt guard to gauge by, any ideas please.

I just did mine unladen. Why anyone would make adjustment that difficult is beyond me. Didnt seem to change noticeably with my 18stone on it:) .

Just measure from floor upto belt and get about 10mm movement, thats close enough for me.

My FXR was the same, I just measured the deflection with a rule.
I used to get some one to sit on mine who was about the same weight.

The way round this for next time is to get your 'Friend' to check it with you on it, set the deflection, get it all right then get off and check again to see what or if the differance is.

If there is one make a note of it and set the belt in future to your unladened setting.

I seem to remember it was not a great deal of differance.
