Fowlers Breakfast run

The end is nigh for most of us, that's not doom & gloom rhetoric it's a fact! As for whether we have 2000 members or more to celebrate this clubs 100th anniversary - being blunt, in the greater scheme of things, who really cares? Most of us will not be around to take part in the celebration of all things EV.

You don’t care but I do. It’s the Club that matters not the individual don't you agree @Rick ? Surely as you have a voice on the committee you should put the club first. 🙄

Yes I agree that the club matters not the individual. However, does the membership numbers keep me awake at night - no!
I am a pro active, enthusiastic member of this great club having been a Regional Rep and contributor to the national committee. In particular I have witnessed the emergence in popularity of your R14, whom I"ve eagerly supported and promoted and will continue to do so.

I do care about the club, but it's a RIDERS club not an MC and therefore my priorities will always put the interests of my family first. I was not trying to be flippant and regretable if my remark has offended you or anyone else - but I spoke as I feel. I don't know what the future holds for this club, but whilst I remain a member, I will do what I can for it, it's success or demise once I am gone is beyond my control. Therfore, what I can't influence I will not fret over, that was the point I was making.

I totally understand mate, @Rick .. sure it may feel like the new world is going to a place you don’t want to be or even like.. 👍 or perhaps don’t understand.

You and I won’t be around in 25 years, for sure, but my sons will. 2 of which have Harleys and one has been going to rally's with me for over 20 years, a member and not yet 40.

Maybe the future is EV, possibly, but people will still run ICE engines using fuel that has a negative carbon footprint, already available, It may even be that given we can now produce a fuel that has no harmful effects the ICE engines may continue in manufacture many more years than we currently believe.

Whatever the case is, we owe it to members past and present, and to all those who work incredibly hard to make this Club what it is, and collectively to do all we can to promote the H-DRCGB in the most positive way we can.. After all we have been around for 74 years…

The way to attract young members would be to have a total facelift of the clubs image and appear more hip.

Sportster Sickness has a mass following of hip youngsters who love their Harley’s.

The sad reality is, when this generation come to a regional pub meet they feel out of place in amongst an ageing fraternity talking about oils and Evo’s etc. They want to talk about PB’s and protein shakes, apps and beard trimming, bikes, birds and if they’ll get laid soon.

Our great club is a niche of like minded people loving the +50yrs lifestyle and one day the hipsters will either go electric, or maintain the enthusiasm for petrol and noise and become our future………but only when the time is right.

Since I’ve been a member, the membership numbers seem to hover around the same membership numbers, sometimes height, sometimes lower, despite those who leave so we are doing something right for sure.

I must be hip Dazzlin, I like all the B's (Bikes, Booze, Beards & Birds) but have no appetite to be the oldest swinger in town! We can't turn back the clock, nothing more embarrassing to the young than we oldies trying to be cool. I am now at the point where I like an expandable waistline on my trousers, slip on footwear aided on with a 3 foot long shoe horn and a baggy tee shirt to hide my gut! Been there and done it, nothing to prove, don't need to impress to be accepted, take me or leave me, I am most comfortable to be around kindrid spirits!

Me too laughing_roll

Good job only about 5 people are reading this post. 😂😂😂 It seems most see the forum as obsolete sadly.

Elastic trousers and slipper wearing oldie… nothing wrong in that. But lets do our best to support the younger generation, and look to the future of our club 👍. We owe it to all who work hard to keep it alive.

There is another aspect not yet mentioned (and maybe no longer valid anyway?) and that is when I joined aged 17 I really liked being around seasoned "old hands" (who then would be half my age now!) hearing their stories and soaking up some of their wisdom. Of course what would be different then was that other slightly less young new members were joining so I did have some age similar company...though I tended to socialise with the thirtysomething oldies.

Its always good to hear how friendly encouraging and welcoming older members can be.
