Region 29 Newsletter for November 2022

Our Region Annual General Meeting: This is being held on Sunday 19th February, 2pm to 4pm at The Bridge End Hotel, Llangollen, LL20 8RY, in the Function Room upstairs. Book yourself a Sunday Lunch beforehand if you wish, some of us will definitely be there for lunch. You can also take drinks from the Bar upstairs with you. We are hoping that the venue and time will enable more of you to attend, and Al says, he’d love to see a good turnout, especially those we haven’t met up with yet. We have the room til 6pm, so plenty of time for a chinwag afterwards.

Nominations for our Region Committee Members: The current committee stands down at the AGM. Anyone and everyone are eligible to put themselves forward for nomination. Full members only for official roles of Rep and Asst Rep; and Full and Associate Members for informal roles of Secretary and Treasurer. If you are interested, please inform Trish Fanthorpe by 5th February 2023. Please then prepare to speak at the AGM to give some background and what you hope to bring to the Region and the Club. Your nomination will need to be “proposed” and then “seconded” by two members at the meeting. If there is more than one person nominated for a role, it will go to a vote. Attached are our Region's description of each of the roles, for your interest below.

National Harley-Davidson Riders’ CLUB of Great Britain AGM: this is being held on Saturday 11th March 2023 in Market Harborough. We like to have good representation from the Region there, as we are over 10% of the membership, the largest of all the Regions. Nearer the time, we will post details of travel – usually car share. Here the National Committee is elected and major decisions about the Club are made. Its also a good chance to meet other Regions. This year, there is one important change: see below.

Postal Voting for the Top Four Roles in H-DRCGB Committee: This year, for the first time, the top roles of President, Vice President, Chair and Vice Chair will be chosen via a postal vote open to ALL members, Full and Associate. This was a hard-won debate within the Club Committee, as it was strongly felt that a Club of over 2000 members should allow those members to vote, rather than the 60 or so that turn up to the AGM. There will be details in the December Harleyquin; and Nominations, their ‘Manifestos’ and postal voting slips in February Harleyquin. It will cost you a stamp. PLEASE make use of this opportunity – the leadership of the Club may not be directly felt by you, but it really does decide the ethos and direction of the Club.

On Lighter Topics:

Al Lloyd has posted about a New Year’s 12 midday meet up at the Ponderosa, Horseshoe Pass, Llangollen LL20 8DR. He’ll post set off points and times nearer the date; or you can make your own way there. Great roads and a fabulous way to finish the year with like-minded mates. See you there!

This and next month’s Meets are:

The Cock Hotel, Hanwood: Thursday 10th November 7pm and Thursday 8th December

The Bryn Arms, LL41 4EN: Sunday 13th 1pm November and Sunday 11th December

The Swan, CH7 5LB: Sunday 20th November 7pm and TBC December

Like your role descriptions, makes it clear what is entailed in holding one of these posts in a busy region 👍

Is it a club requirement that assistant reps need to be full club members and not associate members?

Thanks Mark. We weren't sure about the 'non official' roles, but went on the side of caution. Our rationale was that we expect our Asst Reps to lead a rideout, so it's easier if they are riders.

Perfect, thanks Trish. Is it ok if I use a variation of your role description within our region?
