Show us your old girls

Re: Show us your old girls

Recent reports of rusting issues on modern Harleys make one wonder if it won't soon be factory fitted. :D
I don't see why not, you can buy a Fender guitar brand new that looks like it's been dragged down the road on someone's towbar, & they even charge you extra for the "service".:frown:

..and Levi jeans.
Even leather jackets made to appear "worn" etc. etc.
...and the women in my age range now unfortunately.:frown: :p

Re: Show us your old girls

82 Sturgis with wide glide tanks, more or less every thing else about right. I poached your pictures off the AU site thinking the wheels were wrong, not knowing there was a different colour scheme for 82 hence the faded gold wheels. After a few adjustments I would have to say it seems better than my last shovel. Although the colour isn't bad I might go back to the brown and black one day.
Odd thing, some other members viewed this bike while I was trying to make a deal for it and refered to it as sh-t, I can't see it myself! well chuffed :D
ER ......yeah....That would be me and Jimbo  enough said I suppose .

In mitigation it was our first delve into world of shovelheads and we covered nearly 800miles that day so not too fresh. Jimbo wasn't too impressed after having a ride on it but that was simply about size, it's a wee bit away from the roadking he's used to riding, he got off and started looking at the 1200flh. The 'pile o shit' reference was down to me and was more of a dig at Jimbo for dragging me round three corners of the UK and then not buying it. on the up side we learned a little, had some good banter and made a new pal, the guy at the shop was seriously thinking about coming to Talgarth with us...lol.

heading back to the evo section now...:redface:

Re: Show us your old girls

Here's a picture of my old shovel combo that I bought a few years ago. For a long time I had wanted to head over to the states and do R66 on my bike, however, my wife had other ideas wanting to do it in a sports car with the wind blowing through her hair.

One day while trawling through EBay I came across this low mileage all original bike listed in the states and located in New York. A combination struck me as being a good compromise so I thought about it long and hard and the next day put in my bid, and won! I know I was taking a big chance buying something unseen overseas on fleabay but the owner appeared genuine so I went for it.

When I broke the news to my wife she didn't quite see it the same way as me and was none too pleased about it all, anyway we flew over to the states, registered the bike in New York and then spent 3 weeks on the road.

We did about 4000 miles in all going from NY to Niagara Falls, passing through Canada, over to Chicago and then R66 ending in Los Angeles. We had the most amazing time and the bike didn't miss a beat all the way. At the end I had the bike shipped back to the UK, where it still runs a treat.

That is lovely Kevin and the trip sounded great too. I'm turning a similar shade of green .

Re: Show us your old girls

My first post, hi everyone... I'm a Brit but I live abroad..... Here's my oldish girl

Re: Show us your old girls

Thanks for posting Frederikshavn.
Sometimes people take a picture of their bike and capture something that just gets it right. There are a few on this thread that for me get it spot on. All good bike though.
Frederikshavn's is one of them.
There is also a 1970 FLH on here that just makes me want one.

I'm also a Brit living abroad, and I may make land again in a month or so.

Enjoy the Autumn rides.

Re: Show us your old girls

Thanks Bert,

She's a lovely old thing, the previous owner really made sure the engine was 100%, but fortunately he left me a good few reasons to get my hands dirty..I'll wait for the bad weather to set in before I tear her apart though..

Re: Show us your old girls

Nice one Yoshi , did she behave on the trip ?

What year is it ?

Re: Show us your old girls

Behaved reasonably well Chilly, still needs the carb setting up and dynamically timing. Had the odd cough and fart (the bike not me) but nothing major. It's a 71.

Re: Show us your old girls

Yes it's getting there, I only got my feet the wrong way round twice in the whole 250 miles so I must be getting there too.

Re: Show us your old girls

Finally home after to many months away and at sea.
Pull my 1972 XLH out of the garage with a view to getting her going this winter.

Re: Show us your old girls

That looks real tidy bert , very nice .

Have you stopped rolling yet :D

Re: Show us your old girls

Thanks.

Yes I've stopped rolling but still can't sleep as the house is to quiet:A:
Few jobs to do and she'll be running and annoying the neighbours soon:)
