2015 Fatboy noisy exhausts

Hi

New to HD I have recently purchased fatboy but I am struggling with the exhausts.
My question is the bike is stage 2 tuned with a SE tuner.
The bike has SE 255 cams a SS teardrop filter and VH big shot shorts staggered.
I was thinking of the quiet baffles or even the super quiet but speaking to a HD specialist he stated if I fitted it would affect the tune and would lose 15 to 20 percent power not sure if he is right or not.
He suggested a retune at loads of dosh or change exhausts and retune at even more dosh.
Can anyone come up with any options or solutions so I haven't got to sell the bike to fund
Cheers Krafty

He is right you will lose a lot with the super quiet baffles maybe a supertrap 2:1 exhaust can cut it noise wise the disc system cuts noise but still makes power but maybe cost wise see how the quiet baffles work for you just changing them wont affect the tune too much the dealer just wants you to spend more and your set up is about standard so unless any major work insides been done fit quiet baffles and ride..,,,

The se tuner is married to your bike only, so hopefully this was passed onto you when you purchased the bike. Having this item will save some money down the line.

Krafty get some ear plugs, the pipes sound great and gives you a grin factor so put something in your lugs

Was thinking of trying ear plugs had a pair on Sunday but not very good.Defo dont want to sacrifice power.
The sound just needs to be toned down a bit agree it sounds good but the pitch is too aggressive.
Will try ear plugs but as I suffer with my hearing dont want it getting any worse.

The dealer said a tuner maybe there so he will forward on.
Also bike has no been used much since covid so if battery goes flat will the ecu lose the tune?

I used quiet baffles in short shots and they hardly made any difference on the noise level. Complete waste of money. As for power loss, yes you loose a little top end hp, but the added back pressure gives a minor gain in torque. That said, you’ll not really notice the difference.
Best bet would be to sell the exhausts to fund quieter ones, if that’s the end goal.
If you replace the exhausts a retune would be best to get fuelling correct, but you only need to do it once.

Everything I have read about different exhaust systems is the short pipes and drag style pipes are the worst if you want low to mid torque and power. The shorter length shifts the power band to the higher revs. Yes you might be getting good power but in a different part of the rev range.

DK Customs keep popping up with their lolly pops that apparently make short pipes work better.

What to get though requires researching what others have done. Possibly look on hammer website that although not fully applicable does have dyno runs with different pipes.

Would the simplest solution not be to just 're-install the original quiet H-D exhaust system? Given that most owners remove the silencers or the entire system itself, there should cheap availability on ebay. Just a thought.

Don’t do it ! With the tune thats installed it will run like a donkey because of the cams and air filter with stock pipes seen this a lot on the dyno a total no no try the baffles first the cheapest and easy self do option harleys tuner will have the margin for that when you start changing pipes you need a retune

Forgot about the hot cams (stage 2 does complicate things), but in principal if only stage 1 tune, you can presumably install a stock air filter, pipes and re-tune. However, agree - try baffles first.

Decided I am going to change out these VH big shots any suggestions on a quieter option not worried if 2 into 1.
Tried a ride at weekend but these are not for me not worried about second hand if anyone has any they want to change or swap over.

Recon a supertrapp supermeg will give you what your looking for used em on loads of my builds and you have the option to set the noise to a level you can cope with or race loud , the disc system is excellent and for the tune you have the guide will take you through set up its easy to fit yourself checked my book and i recon 16 discs with the closed end cap will be pretty damm close with out having the dealer to rip you for another tune any issues helps in here (y)

Looks good performs well on the dyno too easy to tune to your build and not mad loud on a 500 mile day in the saddle ,fitted a few had one on my Boz engined road king turned it into a torque monster put em on most of my dyna builds over the years too ,tried other pipes but keep coming back to em probably will fit one to my 04 sporty i am building with Alex’s help and input as i like the look of it on another sporty in here with_glasses

Thanks Watchman.
Will keep a look out cant afford one just yet.
Really appreciate the advise.
I gather I will need a full system and I gather mine will have lambda sensors fitted?

Thanks Krafty
