He rode a harley at the start of the series. The producers wanted a cooler bike so they gave him a 1949 trophy 500 .
i think it was the same as the one ridden by Marlon Brando in the Wild One.

Brando had a Thunderbird with nacelle in the Wild One. The Fonz did have a Knucklehead in the beginning but he never rode a bike more than a few feet & needed a double as he described himself of incapable of learning to ride despite many lessons. The HD was just too big & heavy for him so he had a Triumph. I could picture Fonzie on a Sportster or KH though

I think I vaguely recall that in the British TV series "Boon" Michael Elphick couldn't ride (maybe even didn't drive..?) and that he was taught enough for the close shots..? (incidently, that program was surprisingly motorcyce friendly in an era when we seemed to be televisions baddies. Same applied a bit to "Lovejoy" so I wonder if there was a pro-bike producer around then?)
