FXSTC Tyre wear.

Guys, I have a 2008 FXSTC, with a big bore 103 upgrade, including screaming eagle 255 cams. My question is, given I dont do hard pullaways or burnouts, my Dunlop rear seems to be wearing quick given the mileage I do, I ride solo and two up and try to keep my pessure around 40 psi whickh allows me to not keep adjusting pressure. Looking at the previous owners service record, this bike has had 6 rear tyres in 25,000 mls, including one I put on two seasons ago, are the Dunlops a bad choice for longevity, or is there a good {cheaper, as Dunlops are expensive}alternative, or is it something I have to live with, which is costly given I'm only getting around 3500 before the centre is down to the wear bar by my reckoning.

It seems to be a thing with the 200mm tyre from what ive read elsewhere. I'm just trying to get a view from this side of the pond, as all i've read so far is on US forums.

What's the recommended pressure? I'm guessing 36psi solo, which means you're over-inflating the tyre for solo use, which will accelerate the centre wear. Couple that with the higher torque motor & the tyre is going to wear quicker

38 solo, 42 with pillion/luggage, so I run it at 40 which is OK according to a HD Specialist . I think ,as you say, the high torque motor is probably the main culprit. Next tyre, I will log the mileage.

Bit of extra info that may explain my tyre wear. From new my D407 200/55R17 has 8/32 tread depth from new. A D407 180/55R18 has 10/32. That goes some way to explaining things. The difference in tread depth on the D407 range is an I opener, think I'll just get on with it and ride.

My 07 fat bloke has a 200 rear and has run through a couple of dunlops just about squeezing 6.5k. I put this partially down to a duel compound. Now on an Avon and looking very similar. Be nice to get a bit more as I used to see 12k on my Heritage
