Has my Battery gone?

Over the past few days my PC has glitched on first start-up. Power light goes on and everything starts to whirr as normal for a couple of seconds then shuts down for a further couple of seconds then restarts on its own. The BIOS starts showing its progress, but halts with a message 'Press F1 to continue or Del to go to Bios Settings'. Going to Bios settings shows the date and time are wrong, I'm guessing back to the date when the computer was built.

I'm thinking the battery that keeps the BIOS settings has gone south, can anyone confirm this or suggest another cause please?

It sounds like the BIOS battery has chucked it. If its the CR2025 or CR2032 type, they are easily changed DIY, and cost ?1 (from the Poundshop!!).

There may be some settings that need tweaking from default when it's sorted.
