Heads planning

Hi Everyone. Can you recommend place in or around Nottingham that can do heads planning for my Evo engine?

I'm not sure what ''heads planning'' is - do you mean planing the heads to give a higher compression ratio? It's not the kind of job you want to gamble with, it needs to be done right by someone who knows what they are doing. You've been given the right answer if you want someone within 200 miles of you .... the best course of action is to get in line. Patience is a virtue with critical engine work.

I've been waiting a year in line to have a 1968 Buick big block engine rebuilt by the recognised specialist in this state (Vic, Aust), if not the entire country. For such a critical and costly job, I don't cut corners and roll the dice by going elsewhere.

Kiwidave is right machining the heads is an exact science with a few variables thrown into the mix depending on cam lift/choice mileage on barrels and rings as well as that the valves will need reseating to cope with the compression increase and new stem seals too and it will require ignition adjustments as the burn time is different as the compression rises and also there is a limit to what a stock evo starter can cope with compression wise have a look at this i dug it out from my info rack it may be a bit of use before you start carving metal i am guessing your doing a street motor what Andrew list here is a good guide i used it in the past to good effect but personally i never skimmed more than 80 thou used a mild cam and ended up with a strong running street engine but it all must work as a package carb/cam/ignition/exhaust
And you will need adjustable pushrods as the stock ones go out the window when you skim the heads
Cam choice will play its part on how it all comes together too
