EUTHANASIA

Thats the whole point. Let the person decide. If they dont have capacity, no one else should decide for them.
I agree, and would support that view, in-fact I believe the word only means inducing a painless death.

But what Im saying is the reluctance to allow what can be described as a mercy killing is that we enter the arena of death by jury.

I have to say the suffering I saw in some homes could easily be considered merciful to stop by euthanasia.. and many I know would readily accept ‘the injection’ as a solution for such extreme cases of suffering.

A very interesting article, thank you Michael.
I have a friend, Ray O'Brian who Ive known since the 80's. He rides a bike too. Due to his overindulgence in recreational drugs he had a heart attack and died a few years ago apparently. Whilst dead he explained to me that he hovered above himself for a bit, and went somewhere, all bright and light with happiness. However he was resuscitated in hospital. He now connects with others around the world who have had the same experience. I sent him the article and he didn't connect with it well, saying his experience was more like a transcendental state, and then an after life, he has seen the other side. He went on to explain the feeling was like coming up to a big LSD trip. I have used LSD in the past an know what he means... As our most endeared Club original early member Perry's statement referred to in the Telegraph 'The late Earl of St Germans, founder of the Port Eliot Festival – obituary'...he once said "explaining what its like to take LSD to someone who has never used it, is akin to explaining the rules of tennis to a lobster", or something similar.

So I do understand what my friends Ray's experience was like. The article however offers a few explanations, which are all of interest.

Speaking of astral projections, I read a story many years ago that centred around a particularly criminal man who practiced astral projection, or out of body travelling. He had been locked up for quite some time and developed a method of putting himself into a coma like state, and leaving his body to travel outside of the prison and began adversely affecting the lives of people in the 'free' world. One day he attempted to reach further than he had gone before, to the extent that the prison guards became alarmed at his complete lack of life signs, such was his developed technique. A doctor was called and proclaimed him dead. He was duly buried.

The astral 'thread' to which the prisoner was attached to his body was stretched far, but upon returning to his body, found he awoke inside the coffin, buried under six feet of earth.

Like Marjo in Holland, we also have it here in Belgium. My neighbour was bed ridden with cancer in numerous places but was sound of mind. She called her dr who came and visited, then another dr from a different area also came to see her and discuss. This is so they can be sure there is no influence from the family. Once both Dr say yes it is OK, then it was done within 2 days. Just enough time for a few close friends to come and say goodbye. Hard to do for sure, but she had suffered enough. It was hard on the family as well as kids 19 and 22.
