Hayden M6 primary tensioner

Time for an update.
I've put 4,000 miles on since I fitted the M6 and the primary chain has started catching on the inside of the primary cover. Sounds like a loud clacking, particularly noticeable on tickover.
Pulled the cover off and the chain has nibbled a bit out of the ribbing at the top of the cover, just ahead of the clutch basket.
Hayden's instructions say that if the stronger of the two springs won't tension the chain, then the chain needs replacing.
Bullshit !
My bike has less than 35k on it, there's no way the primary chain is worn out.
I've just replaced the manual adjuster, there's only one sight tight spot on the chain, and with it adjusted to spec the tensioner isn't even halfway through it's available range.
Problem is, I liked the automatic tensioner, it did make the bike run smoother in one specific circumstance ;
With the manual adjuster fitted, if I hit a bump while on the over run, I get a kick through the transmission. I suspect the auto tensioner was acting as a kind of cush drive and taking up the transmission shock ?
Any body else experienced the same thing ?
