If it isn't one thing.....

The consequences of getting old, I guess.

The latest is that I got up Monday morning with a curtain in my left eye. Wednesday I went into the eye doctor, and it turns out I have a detached retina.

Tomorrow I go in to Sacramento for surgery on the eye, and cannot return to Sutter Creek for at least three days. This is because Sutter Creek is 1200 feet in elevation and the gas they inject in your eye to hold the wall until it heals would expand when you go above 500 feet and cause more damage to the eye. After a few days the gas has dissipated enough to allow elevation changes. So I'll have to stay in Folsom until at least Monday. Fortunately, the place where we stay has kitchenettes, so we'll be able to eat in the room.

The other option would be to have them insert an oil in the eye. But this would have to stay in the eye for three to six months, and would have to be sugically removed after that time.

Even worse; I have to keep my head facing down for three days. We have to rent a special chair and a body pillow to accomodate this. So no sight seeing or having anything like a good time during this period. I won't even be able to go on the computer, since we don't have a lap top. I'd even have to use a mirror to watch television (Horrors! I'll probably miss NASCAR).

This really SUCKS! :mad::A:

Unlucky UB

My mam had the same thing. The first oil in the eye thing didn't work then she had to have the op. She had to stay face down for 10 days tho' :frown:

Not much fun but hopefully it'll all be ok once its been done

Re: If it isn't one thing.....

Wow, pretty graphic there Bernard.

Not a sequence of treatment I would want to go through!!

But at the end, you'll be as good as new. :frown: Good Luck

Re: If it isn't one thing.....

Sorry for you Bernard, I hope that all goes well:) and it's going to be a bit of a drag, having to be stuck in the one position, looking down all the time. :frown:
How did the retina become detached in the first place, if you don't mind my asking?

Re: If it isn't one thing.....

Sorry to hear of your woes bernie. Keep your head down mate and you'll be fighting fit again soon. Kim

Re: If it isn't one thing.....

When that op is done here on the NHS Bernie they hold the eye in place with a cocktail stick. Thats not too bad but every time you go near a piece of cheese or a cherry the stick starts twitching.

Do you know what caused the problem, could it be too much vibration from that germanic HD yoghurt carton you ride :60277EB7B04744289C0

Good luck with your op

Re: If it isn't one thing.....

Good luck for a speedy and successful recovery.

>>>Understanding retinal detachment<<<

What happens after the operation?

Some people will be encouraged to get up and carry on as usual on the day after the operation, although most people will be asked to keep their head in a particular position to help the healing process. Your eye specialist will prescribe eye drops and you will need to use these for a few weeks.
You can resume normal activities, including sex, as soon as you feel able.
So Bernie keep your head Down! :D
