Re: Project SX250 it begins
Couple of small jobs in the warmth of the kitchen today, salvaged the piston maybe ....... stripped and cleaned the ignition switch, and as the bike didn't have an ignition key, cut a new one from the lock barrel.
Got a blank for $6, these switches are unobtainium so its worth a go.
Undo the tabs, by the look of it someone has had a go already.
Remove the contacts, make a note, or mark their position. There are 4 ways it can go back, only 1 will work.
These are the bits that make the switch click at each position and stop it vibrating round.
Push the lock barrel through from the front, watch out for the spring loaded levers (brass bits) as they ping free.
The barrel removed showing the levers, these are the bits that the key works on.
Each lever and spring can be pulled out, the small squares on each end do the locking.
With the blank key in, the lever protrudes, the protrusion is the depth to remove from the key.
Push the key blank all the way in without the levers in and mark the key through the slit with a felt tip.
File the key at the pen mark until the lever protrusion is flush with the barrel, too much and it will not sit flush at both sides of the barrel.
Do the same for each lever, replace the springs and levers in the right order, and lubricate with lock lube.
Lubricate the "click" bit.
Fit the contact ring back in the correct position and bend the tabs back.
Reassemble and test.
